Some questions I get asked, and the answers to them.

Should I Shutdown my Mac at Night ?

There is no significant benefits to shutting it down every night. Macs are designed to be put to sleep, rather than being shut off every single night. Whether or not you choose to do this won't affect the longevity of your device in any significant way.

What Applications kill my Mac Laptops Battery ?

Apps like Zoom or Spotify and accessories like high-performance graphics cards are energy hogs, and they often cause your battery to drain.

How long should the Laptop battery last on a full charge ?

Your battery will last up to 17 hours on a single charge, depending on the model and how you're using your device.

Can a faulty charger affect MacBook battery performance ?

Yes. When you plug in your laptop, make sure to use the charger that came with your device. Other chargers may be cheaper, but they don't always work as well and can even damage your battery.

Can I leave my Mac Laptop plugged in over night ?

Leaving your Mac plugged in overnight should not affect its long-term durability, and it's not possible to overcharge its battery. But, by keeping your device plugged in all the time, you might reduce the battery's maximum charging capacity.

Does putting Mac to sleep use less power ?

When in sleep, your Mac is still turned on, but it consumes much less energy. And waking your Mac from sleep takes less time than starting it up. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Sleep. See Put your Mac to sleep or wake it.

Why does my MacBook Air turn on when I open it ?

A Mac laptop with Apple silicon automatically turns on and starts up when you open its lid or connect it to power. With macOS Sequoia 15 or later, you can change this behaviour without affecting your ability to use your keyboard or trackpad to turn on your Mac.

What lasts longer, a Mac or a PC ?

While it is difficult to estimate the potential lifespan of a computer, it is commonly thought that Mac systems last longer than PCs. Industry professionals attribute this to compatibility issues that arise with PCs since parts are made by various PC manufacturers.

Do I need Anti Virus software on a Mac ?

I say No, but, there is a but. The MacOS has strong built-in defences like GateKeeper and XProtect, making third-party tools less essential than on Windows for many users. While Apple's tools protect against known threats, the growing Mac market share means more malware targets them, so adding an antivirus can offer extra peace of mind, especially if you download apps from outside the App Store or practice unsafe browsing habits.
