The first Mac you can touch
This is the big one. After years of Apple saying it would never happen, the MacBook Pro has a touch display. Scroll a page, drag a layer, pinch into a photo or sign a document with a fingertip, then go straight back to the trackpad for everything else. Nothing is taken away. It is simply one more way to work.
A proper screen, and the brightness to keep it
The 16-inch is a desk machine you can still pick up. The screen is the whole point: room for a timeline and a preview at once, or two full-height documents side by side, and now you can reach out and touch it.
PROLED XDR is a tandem OLED panel: 1,000 nits sustained across the whole screen, 2,000 nits at peak, and a contrast ratio of 10,000,000 to 1. Blacks are properly black, and it holds its brightness through long HDR sessions instead of dimming away on you. P3 and Adobe RGB are both covered, which matters if you work to a print profile as well as a screen one.
Pick your chip
The M5 Pro is more machine than most people will ever use. The M5 Max is built for sustained work, and the top configuration adds a 40-core GPU and 48GB of memory for rendering and compiling that runs for hours rather than minutes.
The ports came back
Thunderbolt, HDMI and an SD card slot are built in, so most days you will not be hunting for an adapter. MagSafe handles charging, which means a snagged cable pulls itself out instead of pulling the laptop off the desk.
Silver or Space Black
Two finishes, and the Space Black holds up better to fingerprints than you would expect from the name. Both are the same machine underneath.
