Which size for your room

The most common mistake is buying too small for the room, and the second most common is buying too big for where the sofa actually is. Measure from the sofa to where the television will go, then use Samsung's own guide of roughly 1.2 times the screen size:

42 inch - sit about 1.3 m away. Wall bracket pattern 200x200mm.

48 inch - sit about 1.5 m away. Wall bracket pattern 300x200mm.

55 inch - sit about 1.7 m away. Wall bracket pattern 300x200mm.

65 inch - sit about 2.0 m away. Wall bracket pattern 300x200mm.

83 inch - sit about 2.5 m away. Wall bracket pattern 400x300mm.

Starting points, not rules. Ring us and we will talk it through rather than guess.

Why OLED, and what Glare Free adds

An OLED has no backlight. Every pixel makes its own light and switches off completely, so black is the screen being off rather than dimmed. Nothing else gets that close.

The thing people underestimate is reflections. A bright room undoes a good picture, and every one of these has Samsung's Glare Free screen, which scatters a window or a lamp instead of mirroring it back at you. On a sunny afternoon that matters more than any specification on this page.

S85H, S90H or S95H?

We carry all three, and they are the same OLED idea at three levels.

S85H is the way in. A 120Hz panel and 20W of sound. For television and film it gives you the OLED picture and little else to pay for.

S90H is the one most people should buy. The panel goes to 165Hz with G-SYNC and FreeSync Premium Pro, and the sound doubles to 40W with a subwoofer channel. If there is a console in the house, this is where it starts making sense.

S95H is Samsung's top OLED - the brightest panel and much bigger sound. Worth it if the room is bright or you want the television to carry the sound on its own.

Being straight about it: the step from S85H to S90H buys more than the step from S90H to S95H does. If the budget has to stop somewhere, stop above the S85H rather than below the S95H.

Living with it

Tizen puts live television and the apps in one place, with Alexa and Bixby built in, Google Assistant support and Apple AirPlay from an iPhone or Mac. Bluetooth for headphones, though there is no headphone socket on the set.

The tuner takes an aerial, a cable feed or a satellite dish with nothing extra. Four HDMI inputs with eARC, so a soundbar takes the sound back down the same cable.

If you are wall mounting, check the bracket pattern for your size in the list above. We can supply the bracket and the HDMI cable with it.

What we would want you to know before you buy

No Dolby Vision. Samsung do not support it on any of their televisions. HDR arrives as HDR10+ instead, which every major streaming service carries. If someone has set their heart on Dolby Vision, say so and we will point you elsewhere.

Energy class varies by size across this range, from G on the smaller sets to E on the 65 inch. The specification for the size you choose shows its own.
